What is the Digital Health Initiative?
Connecticut Association of Directors of Health (CADH) is facilitating the development of a digital health platform that would allow local health departments to collect and maintain environmental data in a consistent way statewide. By promoting standardization, local health departments will be able to examine and use data more critically to inform public health policy and practice.
The web-based system will ultimately allow local health departments, among other tasks, to issue permits and perform inspections while recording information electronically right in the field. The system will not only allow consistent, real-time recording of data but also allow easy and efficient searches for particular inspection reports or other important information.
How is the System Being Developed?
The system is being developed by Garrison Enterprises, Inc., and it development is being funded by the Office of Policy Management, with the funds received as a result of an application submitted jointly by CADH and the Capitol Region Council of Governments. Currently, four pilot sites are working to build Connecticut-specific aspects of the program: Central Connecticut Health District, Farmington Valley Health District, Glastonbury Health Department, and Manchester Health Department. Additional health departments are also working independently with Garrison Enterprises, Inc. to develop a digital health platform.
The four pilots have conducted staff training on the system and are working through system design details. Ultimately, additional interested health departments may choose to use the newly developed platform for a nominal maintenance fee.
